Vision Statement
The Lumpkin Family Foundation aspires to be a model of effectiveness for other organizations of its kind in North America.
As a grant-maker, we strive to make the most effective use of the financial resources entrusted to us by members of the Lumpkin family, as permitted by the government of the United States, to do good work in the communities and fields in which we operate. We aim to be a model for grant-makers in establishing and using those policies and systems that ensure operational effectiveness and accountability.
As a family organization, we strive for unity and closeness among the descendants of the original donor, Besse A. Lumpkin. The Foundation will provide a forum for family members to affirm their core values, honor a common legacy of community service and contribute their talents to accomplish shared goals.
We seek unity through the process of selecting, funding and monitoring charitable activities through a consensus process involving the entire family, which is consistent with family values and goals. Likewise we will foster understanding and respect for the family's legacy in Central Illinois, and encourage individual member philanthropy and community involvement wherever members reside.
As a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we seek to exercise responsible governance, demonstrate excellence in management and engage our constituents in a way that ensures our organizational and program effectiveness.
As a proud member of the rural, agricultural community of Central Illinois, we envision a robust, sustainable economic base, a quality education system (from pre-school through college), healthcare and social services capable of meeting the needs of people and, generally, a vibrant nonprofit sector. We will exemplify and foster creativity and collaboration among organizations with similar goals and values.
